| Responses from the symposium participants (Chapter 2, part 1): Important goals in the life and mission of the parish: - Full, active, and conscious participation in worship
Christian formation: catechetical ministry for children, youth, young adults; adult formation, initiation, leadership development Community growth and involvement - Evangelization through RCIA, and Catholic movements, and organizations
Religious education for all ages Worship and liturgy that brings the parish community together. Liturgies that deepen faith, strengthen our unity in Christ, and empower our parishioners to Christian witness in society and to serve those in need - The spiritual development of parishioners
A way to meet and support parishioners in sharing and promoting their Christian values to each other and our society To educate our parishioners at all ages in the tradition of the Church and ways in which the gospel can be applied to their present circumstances - Faith
Celebration Community Service - To increase our efforts to evangelize and increase the number of those attending Sunday Mass
To promote unity between the Spanish speaking and English speaking communities To be the Catholic presence in the area. To make ourselves and our faith visible in the community - To increase involvement in quality liturgical celebrations of the sacraments
To reach out with hospitality and love to our parishioners and beyond in service to the needy To improve our understanding of the gospel and Jesus' message (from womb to tomb) and apply it to the complexities of modern life - Building unity within our diversity
Being challenged by the word and nourished by the eucharist Educating ourselves and others in the ways of the Gospel - Individual growth, maturity and holiness
Community growth, acceptance and development To be of service to others in the community - To celebrate liturgies that "connect" with the lives of the people
To provide a quality program that imparts a vision of the Kingdom of God to the participants so that the values of the Kingdom can be seen more clearly To call people to ministry and to equip them for ministry - LiturgyÑwithout good liturgy people won't come back for anything else.
YouthÑwithout good education and youth ministry the church of tomorrow will be crippled by the mistakes of today. - Worship: As we develop, the worship life of the parish seems to be the area of greatest intensity.
Education: A goal for the future would be the faith formation of all agesÑtoo long neglected in the church of our area. Community: In some ways, the basis of the first two! Since the parish population is so large, new approaches must be developed to create some sense of belonging and ownership. - To work toward a greater understanding and appreciation for the personal and communal experience of God in the sacraments and other liturgical prayer
To promote a deeper appreciation for the importance of family where we are known, loved, and accepted; to provide ministry within all phases of the family life cycles To develop a sense of leadership, responsibility, and identity within our faith community by a process of education and formation for all parishioners at every age and stage of development To form a cohesive and caring parish community which shares Christ's presence with others, both within the Church and in the larger society To develop a well defined plan to maintain and improve the physical plant and grounds of our parish To create a greater understanding of stewardship and the responsibilities it implies in time, talent and treasure - Our goal is to make everyone aware of what it means to be the Church and then challenge all to live that truth. In our mission statement we call ourselves, "A people with the mission of Christ."
