Remembering Friends

Many families experience the "after-holiday blahs." After all the preparation for Christmas, January often seems to be a desolate month. Our family has developed a custom that helps to continue the spirit of Christmas into the new year.

When we take down our Christmas decorations, we put all the Christmas cards in a stack. We keep this stack of cards in a drawer near the table where we eat Sunday dinner.

Each Sunday we take 2 or 3 cards from this pile and read out loud the name of the person or persons who sent us the card. Often it is a card from a favorite relative or friend. But sometimes it is an acquaintance, a neighbor, or even a "Seasons Greetings" from the gas or electric company.

We pray for each person before we begin our meal. The weather outside may be snowy and stormy but our hearts are warm remembering friends and relatives throughout the year.
