Prayer of St. Patrick

Even though we are not Irish my family and I love to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We love to decorate the house with shamrocks. My husband tells our three children how St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity. Just as there are three parts in the one shamrock, so there are three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the Trinity.

This year I found the following prayer of St. Patrick. We ended our St. Patrick's Day celebration by reading this prayer slowly. It was very beautiful.

Christ shield me this day.
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every person who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every person who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
