Family Faith

Good Neighbors

We live in a rural community. We have very few neighbors. But over the years we have leaned that we have to look to each other for help. An elderly woman named Miss Mary, lives in the house next door to us. Miss Mary never married. She now requires a walker to get around.

In the house next to Miss Mary live her brother, Mister Martin and his wife. Mr. Martin broke his hip several months ago. Our family decided to "adopt" these people. My children Chris and Leslie do errands for them. Chris cuts their grass. We all take turns doing grocery shopping and picking up their mail.

It is not unusual for them to call on us to change a light bulb or to perform some task that is difficult for them to do.

We do these things because we love these wonderful people. The fact that we are here if they need us gives us (and them) a good feeling. But it is not all one sided that is just us doing things for Miss Mary and Mr. And Mrs. Martin. In the fall we picked up pecans in Miss MaryÕs yard and she made a delicious pecan pie for us. I noticed that when Chris or Leslie has good news to tell (a good grade Ða special award) that they almost fly over to tell Miss Mary and Mr. &Mrs. Martin.

We are neighbors and neighbors take care of each other!
