Family Faith

Praying the Signs of the Times
There have been so many troubling scenes reported on television lately. We know some families that no longer allow their children to watch the evening news. Then again there are some families who have no idea what their children are watching on television.

My husband and I decided not "to bury our heads in the sand." Jesus advised us to discern the "signs of the times." Now we watch the evening news as a family. At the end of the news each person writes down something about a particular news report. Then we share our thoughts about each incident.

Perhaps the story that grabbed my son's attention was about children who are starving; maybe the sight of babies orphaned in a war particularly moved me. Whatever our reaction is, we take time to pray for each person's intentions.

This activity has brought us closer together as a family and has made us more aware of the needs of the world.
