Family Faith

A Catholic Halloween
Every October my husband and I become so upset over abuses that occur at Halloween. It seemed that each year there was another story of a child given tainted candy or a story of a child injured during a Halloween prank. Last year we decided to do something about it. We still went trick or treating with our three children and the children loved dressing up in costumes.

But when we returned home each child found a special Halloween pumpkin. The pumpkins were cardboard Jack O' Lanterns I bought in the novelty store.

Inside each pumpkin my husband and I had placed several slips of paper. On each individual slip we had written special intentions. We sat on the floor in a circle and each of us took a turn making up a prayer for our special intentions. I have listed the ones that we used, but many others could be made up.

Special Intention Suggestions
For the world
For the peoples of every nation
For the Church
For those in need
For the homeless
For the refugees
For the those "with no place to lay their head"
For the dead
