Being a Disciple
of Jesus In this activity we also had to trace a flame that was drawn in the religion book. We traced and cut out a flame for each member of our family. Then we wrote our names across the flame. We placed the flames in a box. Each day we select one flame from the box. We put this flame on the refrigerator where everyone can see the person's name. All during the day we pray to the Holy Spirit especially for that person. We ask that that person be filled with the Holy Spirit. At dinner we pray the prayer that was in my daughter's religion book: All: Come, Holy
Spirit, be our helper and guide. Give us your gift
of wisdom so that we may know the right thing to do. Give us your gift
of understanding so that our faith will be real and deep. Give us your gift
of right judgment so that we may help others in their faith. Give us your gift
of courage so we practice what we believe with courage. Give us your gift
of knowledge so that we may desire to learn all that we can about our
faith. Give us your gift
of reverence so that we may be people of prayer and worship. Give us your gift
of wonder and awe so that we may treat all people and all creation with
respect and wonder. The next day we chose
the name of another member of the family and did the same. We repeated
this until we had gone through all the members of the family. This proved
to be an especially meaningful family activity for us. My son liked it
because he was preparing for Confirmation. He said that it really helped
him to understand how the Holy Spirit gives us strength to be disciples
of Jesus. My daughters said that they enjoyed helping their brother get
ready for Confirmation and my husband and I truly felt the presence of
the Holy Spirit in our home.
