Ash Wednesday
My daughter came home from her Religion class with an unusual assignment!
Her teacher told her religion group that the first reading for Ash Wednesday
was from the Book of Joel. Joel 2:12 tells us to return to God …
"with fasting, and weeping, and mourning…" However, the
Gospel for Ash Wednesday is from the Gospel of Matthew and Matthew 6:16
tells "When you fast do not look gloomy like the hypocrites."
Her teacher had given the class a chart and some stickers. Their instructions were to place a happy sticker on the days that they had done something cheerfully for Lent. But they also had to place a sad sticker on the day that they had done something gloomily.
