A Light to the Nations: Epiphany

A Call for the Universe to Pray
Praise God, sun and moon. 
Praise God, shining stars.

Praise God, kings and all people, 
princes and all other rulers; 
girls and young men, 
old people and children.

Let us praise the name of God! 
God's name is greater than all others; 
God's glory is above earth and heaven. 
God made us strong 
so that all God's people praise the Lord.

Shining Thoughts
Think of a time when someone was a light for you. Say a prayer of thanks and praise to God for sending this person to share the good news of God's love with you.

Shining Facts About the Feast 
Kings from distant lands were led by the light of a star to Jesus. Today we are the stars that lead others to Jesus. The feast of Epiphany celebrates our call to receive and then to share God's light.

Visitors Come from the East
Soon after Jesus' birth, three kings followed a bright star they had seen in the East. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child Jesus was.

When they went inside, they saw the child with his mother Mary. They knelt down and worshiped him. Then they brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and gave them to Jesus. From Matthew 2:9-11

A Good News Prayer
God, you gave the kings from the East a star to lead them to Jesus. When they went back to their native lands, they shared the good news of Jesus' birth with others. Jesus, may our light which shines for others, be a gift to you.

Holy Spirit, help us to share the good news, "Jesus is the light of the world."

Lights...Prayers...Action!
This is the mission that Jesus has given us: "I have made you a light to all people." From Acts 13:47

Tell Jesus how you will carry out your mission to let your light shine for others.
