| To Parents and Catechists: This
experience invites preteen youngsters to reflect on their own talents. It asks, "What
does God see sparkling in you?" |
Listening to God's Call
David the Shepherd King
Maybe you have never thought of yourself as someone called by God for a
special mission or to be a leader of God's people. David, the young shepherd, probably did
not imagine that he would be called either. But God had different plans. Out of all his
older and talented brothers, it was David, the youngest, whom God called.
Listen to God's Word
The prophet Samuel asked Jesse, "Do you have any more sons?" Jesse answered
"There is still the youngest, but he is out taking care of the sheep."
"Tell him to come here," Samuel said. So Jesse sent for David. He was a
handsome, healthy young man, and his eyes sparkled. The Lord said to Samuel, "This is
the oneanoint him as king!"
From 1
Samuel 16:11-13
Listening to the
Words of Others
Imaginechosen as a leader for God's people! As with Samuel, God
is working through many people in your life, too. Listen to the positive
clues you have heard from others. What does God see "sparkling"
in you? What has God told you about yourself and your call to service?
Reflect on this and write down your "clues."
Listen to God's Word
Let us praise the Lord. God has come to our help and has set us free.
God has given us a mighty Savior, a descendant of God's servant David.
From Luke 1:68-69
Music from Your Heart
David was a remarkable person who used his many talents to praise God. He was a singer, a
composer, a dancer, and musician. He was also a great leader and defender of God's people.
Using all these talents, he listened and tried to follow the "music" of God's
call.
What "music" do you hear in your
heart? Bring yourself to a quiet moment of prayer. Listen to God's call as you have heard
it this week. Respond to that call through words, song, sketch, movement, or dance. Offer
your response to the Lord.
My Prayer Goes On
Let us praise the Lord.
