| To Parents and Catechists: In this session the youngsters have the opportunity to pray a wonderful traditional prayer the Angelus. Try to give them an opportunity to listen to church bells ringing for this prayer. If necessary, you could use a CD or tape. | Mary, Faithful One: The Annunciation Listen to God's Word The Lord has spoken! Be humble and listen to God. From Jeremiah 13:15 When God asked Mary to be the Mother of Jesus, she listened prayerfully to God's messenger. With a humble heart, Mary responded, "I am the Lord's servant, may it happen to me as you have said." From Luke 1:38 Tuning In to God's Will Tune out loud or distracting noises. Close your eyes if it helps you. Focus on a sound from within yourselflike the sound of your own breathing. Feel God's love surrounding you. Imagine you hear God saying, "I love you and have chosen you to be my faithful servant." What will you say to God? Answer in the quiet of your heart. In Praise of God's Servant Years ago when church bells rang in the early morning, at noon, and at six o'clock, Christians stopped to pray the Angelus. It is a prayer that tells the story of the angel announcing to Mary that she was to be the mother of God. We pray as we remember that God is with us throughout the day. Stop what you are doing. Pray part of this great prayer in praise of Mary: The angel of the Lord declared to Mary, and she conceived by the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary ... Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to your word. Hail Mary ... And the Word was made Flesh and dwelled among us. Hail Mary... Stay Tuned to God's Will Today, in many places, the Church continues the tradition of ringing the Angelus bells. If you are near a church at noon or in the evening at six, listen for the sound of the Angelus bells. Remember that, like Mary, you are called to be God's servant. Respond to God in your heart. www.sadlier.com/main.htm Copyright © 2004 William H. Sadlier, Inc. All rights reserved. |
