To Parents and Catechists: The Easter season has many rich stories. This week the focus is on Mary Magdalene. There is also an opportunity for the youngsters to make their own Easter Candles.

We Celebrate the Easter Season

Listen to God's Word
Mary Magdalene was a friend of Jesus. Early Sunday morning she went to his tomb to anoint his body for final burial. The tomb was empty! Where was Jesus? Mary began to cry.

There was a man standing nearby. Thinking he was the gardener, Mary asked, "Where have they taken the body of Jesus?"

The man turned to look at Mary. She saw that it was Jesus! Jesus said, "Mary! "

Mary said, " My Lord!" From John 20:1-16

My Easter Prayer
Close your eyes. Imagine you are standing with Mary at the empty tomb. Suddenly you see Jesus.

Jesus says to you...

You say to Jesus...

Listen to God's Word

It was late that Sunday evening. The disciples were gathered together in a room. Jesus came and stood among them. "Peace be with you," he said. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing Jesus. From John 20:19-20

Pray to Jesus
Draw on your Easter candle as you say this prayer:

Christ yesterday and today!
(Trace the long line of the cross in the center of the candle.)

The beginning and the end!
(Trace the line across.)

The Alpha, the beginning...
(Trace "Alpha" above the cross.)

The Omega, the end...
(Trace "Omega" below the cross.)

My Prayer Goes On
Decorate the space around the Easter candle with flowers or symbols of new life. Say the Easter candle prayer:

Christ, yesterday and today!
The beginning and the end!
