| To Parents and Catechists: In this prayer the children are guided into an experience of discipleshipof what it means to encourage others in faith as Saint Barnabas did. You might want to plant seeds as a sign that you want God's love to grow in you. Use marigold, grass, or lima bean seeds, potting soil, and small milk containers or paper cups. |
We Remember Saint Barnabas Listen to God's Word Barnabas said to the people, "I am here to tell you good news that will fill your heart with happiness." From Acts 14:15-17 The Story of Saint Barnabas Saint Barnabas was one of the first disciples of Jesus. He wanted to share his faith in Jesus with others. So he traveled to many places to tell them about the wonderful things Jesus had done. The name Barnabas means "the son of encouragement." In his travel Barnabas encouraged and helped new believers to grow in their love for Jesus. Wherever he went, Barnabas planted the seed of faith in the hearts of others. Pray to Barnabas Saint Barnabas, sometimes I need to be encouraged so I can grow in love. I need help, especially when others tease me or are unkind to me. Help me to be strong like you. Listen to God's Word Jesus says, "People who believe my good news are like seeds planted in good soil. They keep my message in their hearts and work hard to make it grow." From Luke 8:15 My Prayer Goes On Read the words and finish the picture. As you do this, remember that your faith in Jesus is like the seed that keeps on growing and growing and growing.
