To Parents and Catechists: This experience invites the youngsters to celebrate God's great gift of living creatures. Set up a prayerful space in which they can spend some quiet time.

Celebrating God's Creatures

Listen to God's Word
God said, "And now we will make human beings. They will be like us and resemble us. They will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small. God looked at everything he had made and was very pleased." From Genesis 1:26, 31

Meditate
Picture your favorite animal. Look at it closely. What do you see? Listen carefully. What sounds does it make? What does it teach you about God's world?

Tell God what you like best about your favorite animal. Thank God for all the wonderfully different creatures that share our world.

Prayer for God's Caretakers
Today, people all over the world care for God's creatures, domestic and wild. They give glory to God through their work. Let us thank God for these people. Let us try to follow their example.

My Prayer Goes On

  • Scatter birdseed or bread crumbs to feed the birds.
  • Share an animal story with a little child.
  • Write a thank-you note to a person who takes care of animals.
  • If you have a pet, pay special attention to it.
