| To Parents and Catechists: Even though Elizabeth of Hungary had three small children of her own, she went out of her way to help those in need. This week's resource offers a special way for seven to nine-year-olds to follow her example as they prepare for Thanksgiving. |
We Remember Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
Listen to Gods Word
Jesus says "Everyone will know you are my friends if
you love one another." From John 13:35
The Story of Saint Elizabeth
A long time ago a woman named Elizabeth lived in Hungary. She was the daughter of a king and she was very rich. Elizabeth used her wealth to feed and care for poor children and grownups. The way she treated the poor showed that she was a good friend of Jesus.
Pray with Saint Elizabeth
Close your eyes. Imagine your home or your neighborhood. Is there someone who needs your help? Is there something you can do to show that you care?
Listen to God's Word
Jesus, our Friend, says, "Whatever you do for others, you do for me."
From Matthew 25:40
Action Prayer
Between now and Thanksgiving try to have a "Friend
of Jesus" action prayer. Ask your family and friends to help you.
Collect food and/or clothing for the next few weeks. Before Thanksgiving
Day, give them to your parish to distribute to those in need.
Make and decorate a banner like this one. Hang it near the place where
you will collect your gifts.
