A CALL TO FAITH

INTRODUCTION
The preparation time for Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem has much to tell us about the Lord's providential care for us.

SCRIPTURE READING:
Matthew 21:11

PRAYER RESPONSE
LEADER: "Go to the village there ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied up with her colt beside her."
ALL: Loving God, you know our need to be attentive to your Word. Lord, help me to trust in your providential care.
LEADER: "Untie them and bring them to me."
ALL: Loving God, you know our desire to respond to your will in our lives. Lord, help me to trust in your providential care.
LEADER: ". . . and if anyone says anything tell him, ‘The Master needs them,’ and then he will let them go at once."
ALL: Loving God, you know our need to believe in you, even when we do not understand. Lord, help me to trust in your providential care.

RITUAL
The ritual of blessing and the power to bless are an integral part of our journey in faith begun at Baptism. Invite each one to symbolize the blessing of God's loving care of us by offering a blessing to one another with holy water.

GUIDED REFLECTION
What detailed instructions! Even down to the eventualities—". . . if anyone says anything. . . !" Yes, there is a divine plan. God has everything in readiness, even a plan for the eventualities of life. There is a prophecy to each person's life, to my life! Christ came that he might fulfill the prophecy of his life.

SILENT REFLECTION
Play a tape or record of soft music.
Suggested songs:
"For Everything There Is a Time" by the Rev. Donald Reagan
"Song of the Prophet" by Gregory Norbet, O.S.B.

JOURNALING
Take a few moments to ponder what you understand your call from God to be at this point in your life. Write briefly what you think it is.

Can you recall a time when you were aware of God's providential care of you? Try to capture this experience in just a few words or phrases. This might prompt you to write a short prayer of loving gratitude for such a blessing.

I know God was loving and caring for me when . . .

Suggested Scripture readings for further reflection:
Hebrews 11:1
3 Ephesians 3:14
